Installations & Exhibitions

The Highland landscape has for centuries been a subject for artists to paint. I and contemporary artists continue to paint the dramatic wild and abandoned landscapes we see today.

During my degree studies I have been asked to exhibit my art at various locations - both locally and also in Scotland.

Recently, my work has formed one of the exhibits for the famous Strathnaver Museum, at Bettyhill in Sutherland. The museum offers a wealth of information explaining and depicting the often hard life of Scottish crofters and how the infamous 'Clearances' of the 19th century evicted them from their lands and  forced them to settle in other parts of Scotland, and further afield as far as America, Canada and Australia.

The injustices of those times conducted by the landed gentry, was a key theme I used in my studies and I am pleased to be associated with such a key organisation that seeks to inform the world of those times.

"History of the Highland Landscape by Jane Cooper"

"Jane Cooper explores the socio-historical context of ‘place’ in relation to the Scottish Highlands and considers the themes of history, memory, and the landscape.  Working in collaboration with historians and curators, she creates mixed media work that visually narrates historical events that occurred during the infamous ‘Highland Clearances’.

In this exhibition Cooper has used existing imagery of the Highlands and through appropriation has created paintings that reflect the true story of the landscape and its people. The images appear aged and distressed like the narratives they tell, long ago hidden from view for many years."

I am also pleased to announce, that for the Stathnaver Museum's new season in 2024, I will be exhibiting in their new extension and displaying my latest work. I am also hoping to conduct some artist's talks and workshops.
